WAYHOME UNDERCARD SPOTLIGHT: FOR ESME
Ontario music fans have been buzzing since the Bonnaroo-affiliated WayHome Festival announced it would be heading North and taking up residence at Burl’s Creek in Barrie. The lineup has some international heavy hitters, including headliners Sam Smith, Kendrick Lamar, and Alt-J in addition to indie darlings like Hozier and Vance Joy. There is also plenty of homegrown talent on the bill, such as The Sheepdogs, Hey! Rosetta, The Rural Alberta Advantage, and many others. Of course, the names in particularly large font at the top of festival lineups normally garner the most attention—but what about the little guys? Just because their names may be written in smaller font, it doesn’t mean that they should be overlooked. Every act has to start somewhere, and in this week’s artist feature, we are starting from the bottom (of the WayHome Festival lineup). Take a look at: For Esmé.
Toronto electro-pop three-piece For Esmé released their first self-titled album in 2013, and now the band is gaining some serious momentum. 2015 looks like it’s going to be a massive year for them, with the release of Sugar, their sophomore record due out later this spring, just ahead of their performance at WayHome festival in July. The first single from their upcoming second album, “Just Yet”, was released earlier this month, and it is an exciting and exceptional preview of what is sure to be a strong album. For Esmé is electro-pop that is a little more Regina Specktor and Lana Del Ray than it is Crystal Castles. Somehow managing to be beautifully-ethereal and infectiously-dancey at the same time, For Esmé's unique sound is poised to take them far this year. Make sure you keep an eye on their Facebook page for upcoming tour dates and check out their single below, because this band is going places and you are definitely going to want to say that you “knew them before they were famous”.
