ARIEL PINK'S DAZED INN DAYDREAMS
The ever-eclectic Ariel Pink takes a look at the afterlife of 1970s rock in the video for “Dayzed Inn Daydreams”, which follows an aging glam-rock musician as he goes through the motions of a day in the suburbs. Video director Grant Singer made a fitting decision to cast an actual aging musician — former frontman of late-70s-punk band the Mau-Mau’s, Rick Wilder (Rick in his youth below).
"Dayzed Inn Daydreams” is the third and darkest installment of an ongoing collaboration between Ariel Pink and Grant Singer (who also teamed up for “Put Your Number In My Phone” and “Picture Me Gone”). The video, which is really more of a short-film, sees Wilder essentially playing an alternate version of himself. In a press release, Singer said the video is “the story of a man who was once the frontman of a band that existed decades ago. Through a series of scenes depicting his everyday life, we tell his story.”
It’s a brilliant and unexpectedly touching video, which you can check out for yourself here:
Ariel Pink is still touring in support of his 2014 album ‘Pom Pom’. He is playing shows in Europe throughout June before returning to North America later this summer for some festival dates, including a gig at Toronto’s Time Festival at Fork York on August 15th.
