HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR FRANK OCEAN'S NEW ALBUM
Frank Ocean has been absent from the media for a while now, but that’s because he’s been working on an album that’s being hailed as one of the biggest releases of 2015. With news and rumours emerging almost every week regarding the upcoming follow-up to his Grammy Award-winning ‘Channel Orange’, the pressure couldn’t be greater to produce something monumental.
Ocean seems to be making a concerted effort to ensure his debut album was no fluke; there have been reports that the R&B singer is putting together an all-star team of musicians to help solidify the material including Pharrell Williams, Danger Mouse, and Tame Impala singer Kevin Parker.
Nabil Elderkin, video director behind Ocean's "Pyramids" video, told BuzzFeed in June 2014, "Everyone should be excited about this new album — that shit is fire. He's making a great record. It blows the sophomore album myth out of the water."
In April, Pitchfork reported that Ocean had also recruited producers Hit-Boy (Drake, Nicki Minaj) and Rodney Jerkins (Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson) while recording at London’s famed Abbey Road Studios.
Not much else is known about the album, including a title. Ocean released a magazine in April titled, ‘Boys Don’t Cry’, which was also rumoured to serve as title for the album, but Ocean’s reps quickly squashed that story.
With no songs to tease for the upcoming release, the internet was, however, mercifully gifted with an amazing rendition of Frank Ocean’s 2012 hit ‘Thinkin’ ‘Bout You’, covered by Nao and Mura Masa. The song just premiered on BBC Radio 1 and should keep you occupied until we have more info on the secretive Frank Ocean album.
