RAURY'S "FORBIDDEN KNOWLEDGE"

Every time I hear a Raury track, the same word comes to mind: unhampered. The fear that consumes so many artists in today's industry doesn't seem to have an effect on the Atlanta native. On second thought, I'm sure it does but he still continues to express himself the way he wants to anyway.

Exhibit A - "Forbidden Knowledge"

Tom Breihan of Stereogum recently stated "Forbidden Knowledge, the latest track he’s shared, shows what he shouldn’t do. He shouldn’t rap. On the song, he does a sort of mind-blown motormouth Andre 3000-esque flow, and it does not work. He is not Andre."

One of many Andre 3000 comparisons and or rap criticisms. Of course, everyone is entitled to their honest opinion, so with respect to Breihan and other like-minds I just want to say that "Forbidden Knowledge" is awesome.

His hip hop is philosophical abstract and the indie-folk choir is the pay-off. It's odd but it puts me in a place where I'm not inspired to analyze the track in any typical manner. Was it hip hop genius? Who cares! My blood was flowin' from the privilege of listening to Raury's unobstructed imagination. It is what it is and I wouldn't want it any other way.
