TOVE LO'S "COOL GIRL"
Yesterday, pop star Tove Lo went live on Facebook to answer her fan’s questions, just a couple of days after the release of her latest single, “Cool Girl.” After the Swedish singer broke out onto the scene with her 2014 hit single, “Habits (Stay High),” she secured herself a loyal fanbase world-wide. The new track is honest, catchy, and truly danceable, giving us nothing but what we expect from this artist. It is also semi-inspired by the Amy Elliot Dunne character from the film, Gone Girl.
In her public interview with Facebook in London, Tove Lo got a chance to elaborate on the meaning and inspiration for “Cool Girl.” She explains how it refers to the power dynamic in relationships and the games they force us to play. She talks about how the person in the partnership who seems less interested will always have the power- and thus better to be the “cool girl.” However, this pop star doesn’t promote this behaviour. In fact, quite the contrary. She tells us how ridiculous she thinks it is to play those games. The lyrics in her song seem apathetic, but the singer promises her fans they are sarcastic. “I’m a cool girl/Ice cold, I roll my eyes at you, boy” she sings.
Later on in her interview, the artist discusses getting to work with Nick Jonas, Alesso, and cites her dream collaboration would be with Sia. While Tove Lo doesn’t give us too much insight into what is next, rumour has it that we can expect her second album to be released later this year.
