UK'S PETRIE HAS A GOOD GROOVE ON "TO SWIM"
British alt-pop singer/ songwriter, Petrie just released his sophomore single “To Swim” via Good Groove Records.
“To Swim” premiered early last week through Complex UK. The song is the perfect mixture between electronic meets R&B with a dash of pop. Petrie stated on his Facebook page, To Swim is his favourite verb, and projects that theme throughout the song. Filled with meaningful lyrics mixed with Petrie's powerful voice the song has quickly become a new favourite jam of mine.
“So many books to read
A whole life ahead of me
But I just want to swim with you
And I just want to waste with you”
We chatted with the musician to discuss the creative process and inspiration behind the song,
"'To Swim' started with the creation of a driving percussive loop designed by my producer and best friend Better Laurence. We used synthesis as opposed to using samples or a drum machine to create the loop and built the piece up from that point. The album 'Malibu' by Anderson .Paak and the song 'Eggshell' by Adult Jazz both played an important role in shaping the sound world. Lyrically 'To Swim' is both a series of observations on hedonism and a cautionary tale, with an unnerving description of comfort-obsessed youth."
Back in April of this year, Petrie released his debut single “Your Side.” Both singles showcase the musician as a stellar artist, with endless possibility. Can’t wait to hear more music in 2017.
