THE CALM BEFORE THE “STORM” FOR JON VINYL
Jon Vinyl is a 20-year-old artist who began creating music over four years ago in a studio basement in the suburban east end of Toronto. The R&B singer draws inspiration from artists such as Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, Jodeci, and Boys II Men.
Vinyl's outstanding debut single, “Nostalgia”, was released back in October, receiving rave reviews from critics. Since then, the newcomer has released two other tracks, “Life” and “Cherry Blossom”. He is back today with a brand new song called “Storm”. Following the upbeat, feel-good anthem of his recent single “Cherry Blossom,” Vinyl steps into a new realm of intimacy and vulnerability with the release of “Storm.” This new track is a smooth, ambient Alt-R&B odyssey and sees the young artist sprinkle his silky vocals over a minimalist yet efficient bass heavy beat.
Drawing on his love life, the single is a reflection of Vinyl’s hopefulness in pursuing a relationship that can last through times of adversity. He describes the song - layered with soulful melodies - as a subtle metaphor for the many phases that are encountered in a romantic relationship.
