YES PLEASE GOT US IN A "HALF NELSON"
Yes Please’s catchy new track ‘Half Nelson’ has left me in a chokehold. I’ve had the song on a loop since first hearing it. It’s a healthy mix of cool beats and dirty lyrics that I can’t get enough of.
Yes Please is a relatively new duo to me but these two go way back. Matt Miggz and producer APOB have been making music together since the age of 10. Professionally the two have been pursuing separate interests for some time. Miggz has been photographing some of the biggest names in the Rap industry. His portfolio spans the likes of Travis Scott, Childish Gambino, and A$AP Rocky either performing on stage or candids of them on the street. Something must have rubbed off on Miggz when capturing the dynamic energy of these artists because that star quality is audible on the track. Not to mention that APOB has been refining his skills as a producer having previously worked with Ye ALi, 9th Wonder, and Young Roddy, to name only a few.
The production/artist duo has been active since May 2019. In this short time they have been featured on Live Nation’s ‘Ones to Watch’ , their track ‘All the Time’ was featured on both Ebro and Zane Lowe’s daily programs, and they were featured on the first edition of Apple and NBA’s collaborative playlist ‘Base:Line’. In not even a year the two are making a lot of noise and catching a lot of attention. It’s exciting to see the beginnings of a duo that has as much potential as Yes Please do.
In an interview with tmrw magazine the duo have said “for us, the entire song creation process is the most exciting.” They have fun with it and don’t take themselves too seriously. I think every artist should maintain that element of play in their practice. The music industry is incredibly competitive and I feel there is a whole lot of musicians churning out tracks just trying to guess what an audience will buy into. When musicians are having fun with their art it radiates out through the speaker. Yes Please are childhood friends and they have been able to hold on to that fun element of play in their music, I can feel it and it’s why I haven’t been able to stop hitting the play button - I’m having fun right along with them.
