THE RETURN OF RATATAT

May 23, 2015

The experimental alt-rock duo from New York City, Ratatat, released their first project in 5 years last month with their single ‘Cream on Chrome’. Rumours quickly began circulating that a new album would follow after tour dates began appearing on the group’s website.

Finally, Ratatat has announced that their album ‘Magnifique’ will be released through XL Recordings on July 17th, 2015.

The unique artwork in the album’s cover (above) is a collage of various sketches that band members Evan Mast and Mike Stroud drew while recording the album both in New York and Jamaica over the past 4 years.

Not much is known about the album yet except that the 13th track ‘I Will Return’ is a cover of the 1971 instrumental from the late Phil Cordell, then known as Springwater.

Featured below is the video for ‘Cream on Chrome’ as well as the video for ‘Intro’ to tide you over until mid-July.

Brooklyn Semhar waxes melancholic and laments a family divided on “Daddy.” This track is a smouldering, slow-burning groove that pulls itself along with all the moodiness of its subject matter. It is arranged beautifully, and reflects a refreshing jazz influence in its...
