In a recent interview with Dutch music outlet 3voor12, Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood revealed some interesting information regarding the band’s upcoming 9th studio album. The interview was translated to English by a fan and uploaded to the Radiohead Reddit and includes many questions about Greenwood’s other endeavours, but the stuff about the album is here:
Interviewer: I can imagine that, because the breaks between the albums are getting longer, you all take way more ideas into the studio.
Greenwood: That's true. Thom is always looking for new technologies, just like Phil. Just like all of us, really. We didn't do anything together for too long, so restarting took a lot of time. We're working in periods now. This afternoon, Thom and I will work on a song we started yesterday, see what it will lead to."
Interviewer: Your manager, Bryce Edge, said you guys are also working on Lift again.
Greenwood: He really said that? It's a 'management-favourite'. What people don't know is that there's a very old song on each album, like ‘Nude’ on ‘In Rainbows’. We never found the right arrangement for that, until then. ‘Lift’ is just like that. When the idea is right, it stays right. It doesn't really matter in which form."
The highly anticipated Radiohead record currently has no title or release date, but we’ll be sure to update you with more information as it comes out. In the meantime you can imagine what the band will do to ‘Lift’ by rediscovering it below.
