RAC - THE MAN WHO REMIXED THE ART OF REMIXING

July 1, 2015

What started as a group of producers creating reinterpreted rock, electronic and dance music remixes for music artists has now become a one man army - RAC. His A-list collaborations and remixes with bands like Kings of Leon, Lana Del Rey, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Edward Sharpe, Death Cab For Cutie, Phoenix, Surfer Blood, Foster The People, and Bloc Party’s Kele have garnered the Portland based Producer a lot of attention. Armed with a 1982 Roland Juno-60 and 1973 Univox MiniKorg, his originals as well as his collaborations have cemented his place as one of the genre’s best.

André Allen Anjos began the Remix Artist Collection in late 2006 with one goal in mind; to change the way things were remixed by taking the focus from danceability and replacing it with more interesting arrangements. Earlier on he was joined by two online buddies, Aaron Jazinski and Kookrum, and it wasn’t long (around January of 2007) before things really began for RAC. His remix of The Shin’s “Australia” earned him a B-Side spot on the band’s single and the mix quickly gained attention from notables such as Bloc Party and RaRa Riot. Nowadays, he’s the only remaining member, but with so many big names stopping by to lend their voice, he’s definitely not alone.

His two-part, 2014 album released via Cherrytree Records - ‘Strangers’ truly showcases the extent of RAC’s musicality. The three year long project boasts an impressive list of features (Alex Ebert of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Tegan & Sara, Penguin Prison, Tokyo Police Club, Matthew Koma, Katie Herzig and Kele from Bloc Party), a list that we can only expect to grow in the future.

Take a listen to his latest release, “Back of the Car” featuring Nate Henricks, and our staff favorite, ‘Irish Margarita’ – Harriet remix below!
