M.I.A. has announced that her final album, "A.I.M". is set be released on September 9th, 2016. To introduce the record, the artist has premiered her new single “Go Off” on BBC Radio 1, with host Annie Mac naming it “Hottest Record in the World for Thursday 14th July 2016.”
The track has been produced in collaboration with Skrillez and Blaqstarr and has M.I.A. rap/singing with lightly distorted vocals. The track is in a classic M.I.A. style, with groovy beats, east-Asian influences, and a slinky hip-hop vocalization.
The artist gives us a few hints as to what to expect from "A.I.M". in her interview with Mac, noting that she has brought in many different people to do work on the album. Unlike some of her earlier work, she explains that the message on "A.I.M". will be less pessimistic, a big change from the notoriously outspoken artist, known for her political activism. Despite her efforts, “Go Off” keeps up the M.I.A’s tough-girl image that we know so well from tracks like “Bad Girls,” and the 2015 release “Borders,” with lyrics like “I’m gonna talk and you gonna listen/I’m on ten like me, even better than them,” and “Now you got it wrong/go off on em.”
