While it may be the last stretch of summer, and we’ve heard our fair share of pop hits over the past few months, it’s not too late for one more up-beat, light hearted, danceable tune to take over the radio waves.
As an all-star of producing jams that cross over the frontiers of both pop and rock, One Republic make a big return to our speakers with new single, “Kids”. It’s been about three years since the band released Native, an album that contained popular tracks such as “Love Runs Out,” “Counting Stars,” and “If I Lose Myself.” The latter song was a hit that was sampled over and over again by the EDM community. One Republic, while already a successful band prior to Native proved they could win over fans of every musical genre.
Frontman Ryan Tedder, who also has a notable career in songwriting, working on tracks for Beyonce and Taylor Swift, is a master at producing mega-hits. With “Kids,” Tedder and One Republic have taken the effective formula and shown us they haven’t lost their charm. The record is a lighthearted tune that celebrates the ease and excitement of one’s youth. The song provides listener’s with a feeling of nostalgia, the idea that when we were all younger, we didn’t know what our lives would look like. And that was okay!
The message of “Kids” combined with a rhythmic guitar riff and danceable tempo will get you on your feet and feeling free, if only for the 4:00 minutes the song lasts.
