"WILDE" IS TORONTO'S NEXT BIG INDIE POP BAND

January 14, 2016

So there I am, sitting in the front row of a Star Wars screening waiting for the movie to start, when a Canon commercial comes on...this Canon commercial:

Were you focused more on the song than the camera? I sure as hell was and I was thrilled to hear that it was "Wilde"; an up-and-coming Toronto indie pop band that I've loved since their first single.

First thing I did was text Brandon Merenick (1/3 of WILDE) so that he could confirm what I had just witnessed. That led to us, a few days later, meeting at Banknote on King St to discuss what the band had been up to. The highlights of that convo were;

- Converse flying them out to Berlin to record at Hansa Studios where legends like the late David Bowie, U2 and Depeche Mode made history.

- Spotify spotlighting WILDE on their "Viral Canada" list.

- Tidal doing the same on their "Discovery List".

- CBC Radio bringing the band on to perform a brand new unreleased single titled "Oh, You" in studio q, which you can check out here.

We also discussed a few other things that were somewhat unofficial so I'll leave that out of this article but I do know that WILDE is the next big indie pop band that will come out of Toronto.

Below you'll find a few of my favorite tracks by the band (incl the full version of "Temple" from the Canon commercial) and if you love the music as much as I do, then lend them a hand and share their music with your friends.

You'll probably also want to head over to their Soundcloud and listen to the entire EP, as well as follow them while you're there and on Facebook for future updates.

Savoy Ellis’ “Fate” (feat. Kafeeno) is slick, smooth and spacey. This moody R&B bop pulls itself along with a strong bass groove and gorgeous vocal runs, sparing no expense on its hooks. It’s catchy and has a nice chord progression, to boot.
