JASON SHAY'S "CAUGHT UP/BEAMIN'"

October 19, 2016

Jason Shay, a Montreal rapper, released a video of his song “Beamin’” ft. Alïah Guerra. The video also includes the beginning of his song “Caught Up,” another song off EP “Rude Awakening” featuring Guerra. Both artists produce both songs together. The video is a nice parallel to the songs themselves. The cinematography is beautiful, starting the video with wide landscape shots, then going into tighter shots of the artists singing “Beamin’” together. The jazzy sounds of Beamin’ coming from the guitar and Guerra’s voice are a nice contrast to Shay’s rapping. In addition, there is a trippy feel to the song because of the harmonies and the reverb. This is nicely attended to in the video with shots of Shay alone in a parking garage coloured in a purple hue, as well as video overlay on Shay as he moves around the space. Both the video and the songs show an exciting artistic collaboration and two musicians worth following.

Rallie & Coal are an art...

Not only is the song concept very ironically relatable to this rising generation, but this production is incredibly refreshing. From the chord progression to the balance of nostalgic and modern synths, quirky percussion and of course Anna's angelic vocal tone. And she'...

Brooklyn Semhar waxes melancholic and laments a family divided on “Daddy.” This track is a smouldering, slow-burning groove that pulls itself along with all the moodiness of its subject matter. It is arranged beautifully, and reflects a refreshing jazz influence in its...
