Alex Crossan (Mura Masa) the self-proclaimed “20-year old beat slayer heart breaker producer singer writer lover” (1) has just released the video for his single “Love$ick” featuring A$AP Rocky. The song is off of his widely acclaimed 7-track debut EP titled, “Someday Somewhere”.
Yoni Lappin directed the music video in London and it was shot on 35mm film, which creates the impression of overall rawness and realness. Typical to Mura Masa’s recent collection of music videos, Love$ick follows a group of teens doing their thing – smoking, kissing, drinking, and laughing as they pass their time in urban London. Likewise, Lappin directed the music video for Mura Masa’s song “What If I Go”, which stylistically has a very similar feeling and theme as the video for Love$ick. He is also in the process of making an album documentary for the young British electronic musician. (2)
Mura Masa is from Guernsey in the Channel Islands. His career began with the mixtape “Soundtrack to a Death” which was released to his Soundcloud page in 2014. His popularity grew once his song “Lotus Eater” started to get plays on several shows on BBC Radio 1, including Annie Mac and Zane Lowe. Since then, the producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist’s career has skyrocketed! He released his debut EP “Someday Somewhere” on April 10th, 2015 under his own label Anchor Point Records. Love$ick is the third single off of the EP. He is named after Japanese sword-smith Muramasa Sengo and his music is meant to “cut like a knife”. (3) The young producer who started out by playing in local punk, hardcore, deathcore, and gospel bands is currently slaying the electronic scene. His songs are all full of exotic beats and alluring vocals. The fact that he also plays the guitar, the bass, and the drums simply add to the professionalism and striking rarity that is Mura Masa.
Crossan is on tour as Mura Masa throughout North America and Europe until the end of November.
The release of his first studio album is scheduled for 2017.
