GORD DOWNIE HONOURED BY ASSEMBLY OF FIRST NATIONS

December 8, 2016

Last Tuesday, Gord Downie, the lead singer of the Tragically Hip, was honoured by the Assembly of First Nations for all the work he has done to highlight the negative impact of residential schools.

In October, Downie released his most recent project, ‘Secret Path’, which follows the story of 12-year-old Chanie Wenjack. Wenjack died in 1966 while trying to escape from a residential school in Ontario. The project consists of a solo album, a graphic novel, and an animated film.

Downie was visibly emotional as the National Chief, Perry Bellegarde, presented him with an eagle feather- which the natives view as a gift from the creator.
