Ripsy May seemingly came out of nowhere. Until January 2016 no one had heard of her. Almost a year later the Los Angeles based singer released her third single “Dare.” The pop singer/song-writer is from Latvia originally, after which she lived in London before moving to LA. 2016 has been a good year for Ripsy May, who is rapidly gaining attention for her music.

“Dare” has a bit of a trippy vibe to it, as a result of layered vocal lines and reverb. The song has a strong and consistent bass line and a smooth drum beat. May has a Sarah Slean like voice, which makes her pop sound a little bit more indie. She plays a lot with the sounds she makes with her voice giving the song a continuous flow and making it feel layered and intricate. For only three singles, Ripsy May seems very sure of herself, at least within her music. It will be a pleasure to see what 2017 brings for the newcomer.
