TORY LANEZ STARTS OFF 2017 WITH "NEW TORONTO 2" AND "CHIXTAPE 4"

January 16, 2017

This new year, Toronto rapper, Tory Lanez gave us all the gift of two new mixtapes titled, “Chixtape 4” and “The New Toronto 2”.  Both mixtapes continue a series of similarly released works from Lanez titled “Chixtape 3” and “The New Toronto”, which came out on Christmas day of 2015.

Tory Lanez announced the approaching arrival of the two projects in a tweet on Christmas day saying,

“I have now completed both the #Chixtape4 and #TheNewToronto2 … I’m putting them out on New Years Day .. 2017 belongs to the Umbrella.”

All of the songs on “Chixtape 4” feature a sample from one of the biggest hits of the 1990s or 2000s. The song “Slow Grind” features a sample of “Grind On Me” by Pretty Ricky, “Just a Friend” enhances Biz Markie’s original classic, there is even a track, which samples “What’s Luv?” by Fat Joe (Ft. Ashanti & Ja Rule)… and that is only naming a few! It is the more R&B influenced mixtape of the two and you can hear Lanez crooning sweet melodies throughout.

If you are looking for that harder edge that you usually find in Tory Lanez rapping tracks, “The New Toronto 2” is the mixtape for you. In terms of production credits, Play Picasso, CoopChardonnay, Sergio R, C-Sick, AraabMUZIK, and Tory Lanez all contributed throughout the projects.

These releases are the first new music that we have heard from Lanez after the release of his debut studio album “I Told You”, which came out during the summer of 2016.

This summertime guitar production mixes well with BabyJake's raspy singing, harmonies and a blackbear type of tone.  Also reminiscent of the Dominic Fike wave that's taking over, we're excited to hear more talente...
