"IS IT TOO MUCH THAT I'M ASKING FOR" BY TEP NO

March 7, 2017

Looking for a track to kick start your summer early? Check out Tep No’s latest release of “Is It Too Much That I’m Asking For”. The simplistic, acoustic finger-picking introduction gives the song an urban vibe, while the mix of subtle bass and snap drops keeps the tune catchy.

The chorus brings in a heavier bass drop and adds a bit more rhythm with trumpet accents, taking the song from a sensual urban sound to a slow Soca. Tep No keeps the listener interested with the club beat undertone, while also keeping it light in bass, making it multi-genre. Listening to this song, it is hard not to roll your shoulders and sway your hips; the perfect track when you’re headed out for some fun in the sun.

Lyrically, the song is based around the idea of the never-ending search for love, while the ending always seems to be the same. Hence the title of the track; “Is It Too Much That I’m Asking For”. With lines like; “I’m always reaching, for a love I cannot find/ And it hurts to know, that you aren’t mine/ And I’m failing, with you more and more each time/ But I want you more/ I want you more…” you can sense the feeling of uncertainty the singer has for connective emotions.

Tep No goes into further detail with his feelings and lyrics in the chorus; “And hey, if we hopped on a plane, we could be alright/ Cuz every sign always leads to you I know why/ I just want you to be my lover/ Is it too much that I’m asking for, too much that I’m asking for…”. The song continues to subtly fluctuate between acoustics and drops, making for a very melancholy, relaxing tune.

The track ends with the simple plea of; “Don’t Leave Me Alone Baby/ I’ll be, be your home/ Don’t Leave Me Alone/ I’ll be, be your home/ Is it too much that I’m asking for…”

This Toronto based artist is already gaining attention after his signing with Ultra Music, and former acting career with The 6’s very own Drake. Catch Tep No this April 21-23 at the Sweet Water 420 Festival in Atlanta. The festival features an awesome line up including; Dirty Heads, Talib Kweli, and Slightly Stoopid, to name a few.
