Toronto's newest Alternative Pop solo act "Bad Child" opened up the night at Adelaide Hall thrown by MRG Concerts (or at least my night, I showed up late from my other job). He's no stranger to our blog, it was exciting being part of his live energy. His raspy vocals can be compared to Allan Rayman, except Bad Child's production is a lot more electronic/experimental with quirky, outrageous adlibs at times and he's not as soft spoken as Allan. His energy was great from dancing on and off stage to yelping vocals full of energy and spizzaz.

Next, FEATURETTE blessed the stage. Although this was their first headliner, FEATURETTE has played alongside notables Alessia Cara,  Dear Rouge, Walk of the Earth, Adventure Club, Hayley Kioko, Catey Shaw, Paper Lions, Neon Dreams, Ria Mae, Coleman Hell and more.

Toronto-based duo FEATURETTE was formed by singer Lexie Jay and drummer, Jon Fedorsen. Like their synth-heavy dream pop contemporaries Phantogram, Broods and Tove Lo, FEATURETTE is influenced by the emotionally charged, heavy hitting electro-pop sounds coming from Northern Europe and New Zealand.

Lexie's radiating positivity is enough to steal the attention from everyone in the room. Her frantic jumping and dancing (while singing) keeps energy levels peaking, but as if that's not enough, she wields an mini-megaphone for filtered effects to add tastefully within vocal runs. Her unique live vocal sampling gives the show an organic, futuristic element that defines their electro-pop genre. Jon's drumming is relentless and provides unique percussion elements to suit the energy from the front-woman.

Below is their set-list from the night:

Savoy Ellis’ “Fate” (feat. Kafeeno) is slick, smooth and spacey. This moody R&B bop pulls itself along with a strong bass groove and gorgeous vocal runs, sparing no expense on its hooks. It’s catchy and has a nice chord progression, to boot.
