Stevie Wolf is an honest, compelling, and very talented singer-songwriter who’s been getting some buzz. He has followed a rocky road to get here. He’s been diagnosed with Tourettes and major Anxiety Disorder, went to school for economics, moved to New York to chase his musical dreams, went through a rough patch with depression and substance abuse, recovered, and now he’s channelled all this into some beautiful music for our ears. Let your introduction to his music be through his new single: Paper Mache Doll.
Stevie seems to have a knack for melody, in an age where a lot of pop music is forgetting about melody and putting the emphasis on vibe. Instrumentally, the song is supported by some boomy drums and warbly guitars; spartan, utilitarian, supportive. The instruments aren’t the focal point, Stevie is, with his honest, semi-strained, viola of a voice. He passionately belts ‘I wanna be so much more, than my body and my acne scars’ in the chorus, and I believe it, and it’s moving. There are many satisfying lyrical moments in this track, it’s so worth a listen to discover for yourself. I highly recommend this artist, he deserves to go places, whenever we can go places again.
