SHAH FRANK'S HYPNOTIZING NEW SINGLE "RIDE OR DIE"

June 12, 2020

Our partners at Higher Reign Music Group recently launched REIGN, a branch of the label that showcases Canadian talents in Hip-Hop, Rap, R&B and Afrobeat. R&B songstress Shah Frank emerges from a two year hiatus to debut her single with REIGN, "Ride or Die".

This track is laced with funk from the vocoder layers to the groovy bassline to carry the bounce. Shah wastes no time, instantly starting the song with a recognizable line from a classic,

"Chillin in the passenger seat of your best friend's ride"

Shah explains the inspiration for that;

"Quoting TLC was a way for me to remind myself where I come from. 10 years ago, I was in this group. We called ourselves The BrokeKidz. I was the singer (Brooklyn) and my girl was the rapper (Kid Crayola). People saw us as the new TLC. It was a pivotal moment in my life where I discovered this "crazy, sexy, cool" type of vibe about myself. I felt like I broke free from the mold my parents tried to fit me in and I never want to lose that energy. So I put little fun quotes here and there in my songs. And it lets people know I'm a 90s baby."

Her beautiful tone really suits the melodies as she tackles many vocal runs with ease. When asked about the creatives behind "Ride or Die" Frank explains;

"Honestly, it feels like the whole city of Montreal came through to make Ride Or Die. I do have to give a special shout out to the musicians who poured pure magic on this one. Imposs, one of Canada's French hip hop's pioneers, was there in the studio guiding them and really squeezing that juice! Then, I sent the track to Vnce Carter who added that sensitivity I didn't even know was missing until he sent it back. It was really a lot to manage but at the end of the day, I'm proud of what came out of it. I got to work with two of Montreal's heavy-hitters and it was a blessing to have such talented musicians on a song I wrote voop, voop on the corner of a couch!"

She goes on to describe the creative process being bilingual;

"I'm also of Haitian descent so when I create, I like to integrate different elements of my background. It can be in the way I pronounce certain words or in the way I'll flip a french expression in english even if it's not something english people would normally say. It just makes things more exciting! I want people to truly feel me when they listen to my songs."

Well she certainly made this joint exciting from all the saucy production layers to the strong vocal performance. Rumour has it there's a video coming out for this soon so keep your eyes peeled and in the meantime, stream Shah Frank below.
