COME GET CHAPPELL ROAN OUT OF "CALIFORNIA"

July 3, 2020

The glitz and glamour of Hollywood has worn thin in Chappell Roan’s sentimental new song “California” and its companion music video. California is also the name of the 3-track EP the song comes with including "Pink Pony Club" and "Love Me Anyway". After moving from her small town in Missouri to the bright lights of Los Angeles, Chappell opens up about struggling to make the huge adjustment. “Come get me out of California, no leaves are brown. I miss the seasons in Missouri, my dying town,” she sings.

Her vocals are so mesmerizing, you're not at all mad that most of the first minute of the song is basically acapella. The song is as she describes, "is like a warm pop music blanket that will make you feel the warmth we all need a little bit of.”  Her tone (more shown on "Pink Pony Club" has a tasteful raspy tail to it too which really provides that extra feeling of authenticity and passion.

A gifted singer, pianist, and songwriter, Chappell Roan followed her debut EP (School Nights, 2017) with a series of well-received concert tours, including U.S. runs alongside Declan McKenna and fellow Atlantic recording artist Vance Joy. Still, the weeks and months that followed saw Roan’s artistry wholly transformed, fusing boundless energy, nostalgic introspection, and theatrical power into a wildly original sound.
